Short Breaks Service, NAS Radlett Lodge School

NAS Radlett Lodge School Short Breaks Service

Radlett Lodge provide Short Breaks to children, aged between 4 and 16 years of age who have a diagnosis of an autistic spectrum disorder (ASD).

Radlett Lodge provides a safe and secure environment, with staff experienced in working with children with ASD. We have a range of specialist resources available on site for the children to pursue leisure activities. The service is also in a desirable location being easily accessible to many transport links. We are in close proximity to a variety of community facilities which enables the children to engage in community activities such as bowling, trips to cafes, country parks and zoos. The service prides itself on supporting the children to develop independence, and generalise communication and social interaction skills.

The Short Breaks provision provides both 7 hour day schemes operating from 9.30 to 4.30 on a Saturday and Monday - Saturday during the school holidays; and a 24 hour service operating from 2.30pm Friday and Saturday nights and during the school holidays. The short breaks service is highly flexible and aims to meet the needs of the family.

One mother of twins who access our service commented “I think... coming here because it’s such a big site there’s the playground, the hall, they are really active, boisterous so they can run off energy. They can have a life. They’ve got to have a social life, they get to meet other children, go on outings.  It’s kept the family together; it’s unlikely we would have been able to cope for this long without respite.”
