Hi

Hi, im Donna, my son was diagnosed in october 2010 at the age of 3 with ASD.

Alltho there is alot more awareness now with Autisum i was disguseted to find out that the local autority do not seem to be aware of the educational needs with an autisti child.

My son started school early in September last year due to my concerns with his develpmont, the school have been absolutly fantastic and i can not prasie them enough. Once we had Owens diagnosis the school applied for a statement of speacial educational needs for Owen to have a one to one tutor at school. I was astonised when we had a letter from Cambridge County Council that he had been declined. Not one to give up a fight, i contacted the local MP. I was aksed to go to his office with all paperwork i had on owens diagnosis and letters from the council, i saw a lovely lady who wrote everything i said down, and promised to pass it onto the MP. A few weeks later i had an email from the MP who said he had contacted Adrian Lode at the council. Just last friday we recieved a letter from the council saying Owens application for a statement had been successfull.

I was wondering, am i only one who has had to fight for this, or are there others out there?

I would like to do what i can to make sure that the fight i have had to endour doesnt have to happen to other parents out there with problems like Owen.

I am attending this months meeting at the meadows center, and am also currently going to the Early Birc course.

Im now very determined to fight for others with this issue, its my new mission in life. Any infomation or points in the right direction would be appricated.

Donna x
