On the Autism Spectrum and now an internationally renowned and respected professional, at school Wendy was considered to be intellectually disabled and almost incapable of doing as she is told. In her teens, she was misdiagnosed as schizophrenic. This label stuck for more than 25 years, until she was diagnosed in 1994 as being on the autism spectrum. Wendy says: I want to share my autistic understanding with others. This may then help them to understand what being autistic is like and in doing so a bridge can be formed, running from my world to theirs.... Although I have achieved a great deal in recent years, I still need to rely on a network of people around me.
This event will explore how people on the autism spectrum experience negative emotions. Delegates will gain invaluable insights into why there are often crippling levels of anxiety, fear and guilt. Strategies and ideas will be offered for everyone working and/or living with autistic children, teenagers and adults dealing with these issues. Essential information for professionals from all services, including Education, Health and Social Care, Commissioners, Service Developers, Mental Health and Learning Disability Teams, Occupational and Speech and Language Therapists, General Practitioners and those working for Emergency Services; and equally valuable for parents, grandparents and other family members as well as people on the Autism Spectrum. The afternoon will include one of our invaluable Q & A sessions.
