Hello

Hi All,

I'm a moderator on the forums, so I thought it would be nice if I set the ball rolling with introductions.

My name is Caron.  My partner, Chris, runs this site.  We have two children: Jude (5) who has ASD, and Gabe (nearly 3) who is NT.  I'm a uni teacher and writer, currently working on something about autism.  I'm also a forum junkie, so am looking forward to meeting you all online!

Please post - don't be shy!  Together, we are stronger than we are alone.

Re: Hello

Hello

I have a 9 year old who was diagnosed with AS towards the end of last year.

Because he goes into his own world at school and is very quiet, but once he's out of school makes up for it, I'm finding it difficult to get people to understand what he is really like and to get help towards a statutory assessment and (hopefully!!!???) statement before he moves on to secondary school.

Does anyone else have similar experience?

Re: Hello

Hi Caron,

Nice to hear from a friendly ear, no worries about reply its been summer and a busy time for all!! Would be great to hear from others and will watch out for the meet-up thread - am feeling a little bit overwhelmed with it all at the mo:(

Re: Hello

Hi Pippa,

No idea how I missed this post - how rubbish of me!  It would be great to meet up, and I know others are feeling the same, and some are contacting the branch committee with suggestions.  It might be worth having a meet-up thread in the forums (I'll start one and see!).

All best,

Caron

Re: Hello

Hello,

My name is Pippa, my husband is Sean and I have a wonderfully charistmatic little 5yr old boy called Alex who was very recently diagnosed with "ASD (High functioning Aspergers)".

Would be great to hear from other's in the same/similar situation and be able to pick other people's brains about behaviour tactics etc.

Hoping to hear from you:)

Re: Hello

Hi Bev,

I can certainly relate to your experiences.  I have sent you a personal message which I hope you receive (a strange message about not having access appeared when I sent it, so I'm not sure if it went or not).

I know I said about meeting in the summer holidays, but we also have the May/June half term which I have booked off work, so if anyone wants to meet up then it would suit me.  No ideas about venue though?  Could just be a park if we get good weather.

Re: Hello

Hi

I have only just got to grips with the forum and how to use it, so have been reading posts with interest.

My youngest son was recently diagnosed with AS in January and I am currently overwhelmed and exhausted with trying to get to grips with behaviour and anger outbursts from him, would be really good to discuss issues with other parents and to hear suggestions etc. Would also be interested in arranging meet ups, Toby is 8 and has an older brother Hugh who is 10, and who struggles to deal with Toby (any similar experiences/advice anyone?)

Re: Hello

No, you didn't miss Monday's: it wasn't on because of an election programme.  So will be on this Monday, and should be the performance.  Ben is the most like my son, too.  Yes, I'll catch the dancing one as well.  Probably not tonight, because of the election, but another night on catch-up or repeat,

Re: Hello

I've been watching, but missed Mondays :-(  Ben appears the most like my son (and probably a bit of Molly too).  There is a one on today about dancing i believe, so will try to wathch/record it.  I did see the driving school one too.

Re: Hello

Hi Zoe,

Fantastic, that's four and counting!  Exciting stuff.

Anyone been watching Young, Autistic and Stage Struck?  Some dubious stuff there, but great programme overall, and what lovely kids and (mostly) lovely parents!  Inspiring.  Clearly based on the American Autism: the Musical, which is totally fab!  Oh, and I loved Autistic Driving School too; some great progs out there at the moment :)

Re: Hello

Hi Zoe,

3 boys on the spectrum, that must be incredibly tough for you.  But pretty much makes you the expert, I know where I will be looking for advice ;-)

There are 4 of us now with children in a similar age range so numbers are gradually building.  I look forward to meeting everybody at some stage.

Re: Hello

My name is Zoe, I am married to Andy and have 3 boys Jack is who 7 and is on the Autistic Spectrum, Joshie who is 6 and also on the Autistic Spectrum and Jake who is coming up to 4 and just about to go for an assessment at CDC.

It would be so lovely to meet or to chat to more parents/carers out there who have are in a similar situation and fully understand what we are all going through. And also for our kids to meet too.

Re: Hello

Hi Sonya,

Good idea about meeting up for a playdate with a difference over the summer.  Your kids are the same ages as mine,

Caron

Re: Hello

Hi,

Just to add to the introductions.

I'm Sonya, and I have 2 boys one 5 about to be diagnosed ASD, and a 3 year old who is neurotypical (I think and I hope!).  I would definitely be up to meet up face to face at some point with other parents in a similar situation.   I live in a village in West Cambridgeshire.  Also it would be nice maybe over the summer holidays to arrange some meet ups with the children, so they can play with other children whose parents understand the little problems!  Also I would be happy to help out if needed - just send me an email.

Re: Hello

Hi there Katie,

We really should get a meet sorted, if there's enough interest.  Maybe even something ambitious like an hour in a pub - though for a single mum, I appreciate that might be difficult.  In the meantime, we can all slip on our anoraks and meet on the forum.

Re: Hello

Hello back to you! I am a single mum, Kate, with a six year old daughter who is diagnosed with Aspergers, and a nearly two year-old who seems to be headed the same way! I appreciate her unique wit and imagination; however she does have some 'different' behaviours and reactions which need extra care. It would be great to be in touch with others in a similar siuation.
