Researchers at the Cognition & Brain Sciences Unit and the Autism Research Centre in Cambridge are looking for volunteers for a new study into object vision in autism.

NAS Professional Conference 2012

This annual two-day conference will be a unique opportunity for senior professionals to discuss best practice and share learning.

The NAS wants your help to comment on the draft guidelines from NICE for supporting autistic adults.

Earlier this month, the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) launched a consultation on a draft clinical guideline covering the recognition, referral, diagnosis and management of autism for adults .

This guideline advises health professionals on how best to support adults with autism. They are considered best practice, and are read by health and social care commissioners across the UK. You can find out how the guidelines are used in the different nations of the UK here.

Mencap project for young people with a learning disability

Inspire Me is an exciting new project, funded by the Co-operative and delivered by Mencap.  It is all about giving young people (aged 16-25) with a learning disability the chance to change their future.  The project began earlier in the year in other parts of the UK and it is now beginning in the East of England.

This new self employment venture strives to enable individuals to develop new skills, increase confidence, independence, self esteem, and build greater social connections within their communities.

Autscape 2011 "Owning Autism"

Autscape is a conference with a difference. Rather than talking to a primarily non-autistic audience about autism, this conference is specifically by and for autistic people. Some of it isn't even about autism at all! Non-autistic people are also welcome, but the environment and content of the event are centred around autistic peoples' needs, interests and sensitivities.

New self-advocacy booklet for adults on the spectrum

The booklet was developed by a group of adults on the autism spectrum and is designed to help you communicate your wishes and needs to the people you meet. Young man (19) - mild Aspergers Syndrome - seeks support worker for social activities

Seeking male or female support worker with experience of people with ASD to help pleasant and friendly young man with AS to organise and take part in social activities, eg cinema visits, bowling, karting, evening classes, local amateur dramatics (maybe?) or singing groups.

 

Ideally you will be aged 18-25 and living in or local to Cambridge all year round, including college/university holidays, and able to commit to one or two afternoons or evenings a week.
