Castle School

Hi, does anyone know of have experience with the castle school? Its looking very likely that my son will need to go there.

I was intending to come to the last meeting to ask some questions but unfortunatly couldnt get a babysitter.

NICE guidelines on diagnosis of autism in children published!

NICE guidelines on diagnosis of autism in children published!

On Wednesday September 28th, the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) published new guidelines on the recognition, referral and diagnosis of autism (all conditions on the autism spectrum, including Asperger syndrome) in children and young people. These guidelines will be used by health and social care commissioners in developing their services, and recommend much more joined-up working between all local services, along with parents and the voluntary sector.

Family Talk

Family Talk is a 6 week practical course for parents/carers of children aged 2- 5 years. It was developed by the Speech and Language Therapy Department at the Bristol Royal Hospital for children.

It follows a flexible programme of activities and discussion, during which adults get together to explore ways of making communication and play with their children fun and rewarding.

Each week families will receive a Chattersack toy bag to take home to borrow. Sessions include:

(For families with at least one 0-5 yr old)

2 - 4yrs: 10am - 11am

FREE “Run Around!” Sports sessions


This summer you can book your child into FREE Activities to get them active during the summer holidays. All sessions are led by qualified, CRB’d instructors. It’s a great opportunity to have fun and try new sports like basketball, tag rugby, dance, boxercise, quick cricket and a variety of other sports!

Summary of government White Paper on plans for Education and Schools

In December the government published 'The Importance of Teaching: Schools White Paper'. This sets out the government's plans for education and schools. Proposals of particular interest to parents of children with special needs include:

* Academies will need to follow legislation and guidance that applies to local authority schools regarding SEN and admissions

* Teacher training is to be reviewed to encourage better qualified applicants, increased emphasis on training in post and a better

Talk on the benefits of combined music and play therapy for children with ASD.

Koren Wilmer, a professional music/play therapist will be talking about how children communicate through play and how playing with sound and manipulating musical instruments can help children with sensory issues. The talk will be illustrated with a few video examples from sessional work and there will be an opportunity for some audience participation!
