New NAS Branch parent support group

Coffee and chat

Would you like the opportunity to get together for coffee and a chat with other parents

but find it difficult to get out in the evenings?

If so, please come along to a new informal parents morning coffee group which will meet monthly.

Our first meeting will be on Wednesday, 14 March 2012 in the foyer of the Meadows Community Centre. The Meadows Cafe will be open for drinks and snacks and you are very welcome to join us.

The NAS held an Education Roadshow for teachers working with autism at the Life Centre, Newcastle, on Tuesday 8 November.

 

Don't worry if you didn't get to the venue in person, because thanks to our sponsor, Axcis Education Recruitment, NAS can offer everyone the chance watch the roadshow  online, free of charge.

 

Our Newcastle roadshow is the second in a series of five regional events to help teachers and other professionals learn the tools and strategies they need to support children with autism effectively.

The Autism Show

On June 24-25, The National Autistic Society will be a headline partner at The Autism Show, the UK's first national event dedicated to autism for parents, carers, professionals and people on the autism spectrum.  

Parent support meetings (for parents of children and adults with ASD)

The next support group meetings for parents of children and adults with an ASD will be on:

  • Monday, February 6th (Room 3)

Talk on the benefits of combined music and play therapy for children with ASD.

Koren Wilmer, a professional music/play therapist will be talking about how children communicate through play and how playing with sound and manipulating musical instruments can help children with sensory issues. The talk will be illustrated with a few video examples from sessional work and there will be an opportunity for some audience participation!

Meet and Play pre-school support group

Parents and carers of preschool children who have social communication difficulties are warmly invited to drop in to our FREE  'Meet and Play' sessions: The first sessions of 2012 will be on:

  • February 7th
  • March 6th
  • April 3rd
